About CogMIR:

CogMIR (Cognitively based Music Informatics Research) is a community of academic and industry researchers engaged in music informatics informed by theory and research from the cognate field of music cognition.

Three long-standing goals of music informatics have been to improve: (a) the quality of features extracted from music, (b) the representation of features, and (c) the exploitation of (a) and (b) to analyze, generate, and retrieve music. In general, the methods used to pursue these goals do not always reflect theory and research from music cognition, a gap that CogMIR strives to address.

The CogMIR seminar is unique in its emphasis on interdisciplinary interaction between cognitive scientists, computer scientists, and musicians.

CogMIR was founded by Naresh Vempala and Frank Russo in 2011.
